Guide to the Rias Baixas Galicia – Introduction

The Rias Baixas stretch from Tui, alongside the Portuguese border up the coast more than 100km (as the crow flies). The Rias (inlets) are large and dramatic and well worth a day or two of driving. Although some of the towns along the way are a little hit and miss (some of the larger resorts are frankly sad) there stil remain some charming villages and more important than that, stunning views. If you’re here in the summer, it will be busy with largely Spanish holidaymakers attracted to the more temperate climates.

The winding coastal road (C550) run the whole length of the Rias Baixas coastline with some stretches far more inspiring than others, it really is imperative that you have a car here to get the most out of your trip. Alternatively you could base yourself in one of the larger towns (Pontevedra, Vigo) and make a one day excursion to see the prettier Rías.
